Female Hair Loss Treatment & Remedy

Over 20 million women in the United States are suffering from hair loss. Hair loss in women, while often less noticeable than hair loss in men, can be far more emotionally pain. Women have fewer choices for a hair loss remedy than men and often suffer the pain of thinning hair in more personal ways.

Causes of female hair loss

The main causes of female hair loss include hormones, child birth, and menopause. If hormone is imbalance, hair loss is the end result. After 3 months after giving birth, women usually have hair loss. But this condition is temporary and should be reversed to pre-pregnancy levels over time. Menopause is a common reason for hair loss in women.

Which Hair Loss Treatment or Remedy Is Right For Female

Female pattern hair loss is similar to what is known as the “male pattern hair loss” for men. It is caused by an increasing amount of a chemical called DHT which usually occurs in the menopause age.

There are several female hair loss treatments that may work to help stop hair loss and regrow lost hair for women.

Rogaine is the only FDA approved female hair loss treatment. Its’ main component is called Minoxidil which is a DHT inhibitor. It has been proven to show minimal improvements in 50 percent of women and moderate improvements in 13 percent. Minoxidil requires a twice a day application of either the 2-percent or 5 percent solutions. The drawback is treatment is lifelong. It takes a long time before women see improvement in their hair condition.

Other less common female hair loss remedy like wigs, hair thickeners and hair transplants are not recommended.
Other kind of female hair loss is a temporary hair loss. This kind could be a result of metabolic problems during pregnancy, a severe stress condition, chemotherapy, high fever or infections. The treatment in these cases would be stopping the hair loss causes as soon as possible. This would stop hair loss and result in hair regrowth.

These days there are alternative female hair loss remedy such as anti-baldness herbs that you can get in a health food store. It is interesting to know that 50 percent of all modern drugs are derived from herbs. Herbs work with the body’s natural mechanisms. Some herbal hair loss remedies or supplements may work for female but they are certainly not a cure-all solution.
