Hair generally grows about half an inch per month, though this slows as you age. Each hair remains on your head for two to six years, and during most of this time is continually growing. But many factors can affect this cycle. The outcome can be that your hair falls out early or isn’t replaced.

A new study has been made in finding out what actually causes hair loss, namely: the hardening of collagen. Persons who do not suffer from hair loss have supple collagen and persons who begin showing signs of hair loss have hardened collagen. Collagen hardening interferes with the healthy functioning of the hair roots. The vital exchange process of the hair follicle cycle is disrupted and the hair becomes suffocated.

What Really Causes Hair Loss?

Diet

Too little protein in your diet can lead to hair loss. Too strenuous dieting can result in hair loss! If you want to lose weight, do it the correct way. Pay special attention if you already have thinning hair problem.

Childbirth

Some women lose large amounts of hair within two to three months after delivery.

What To Do?

One great tip is after washing your hair, dry it in whatever manner you normally do. Then turn your head upside down, give your head a vigorous shake, and once back in a standing position, either “place” your hair using your fingers, rather than a brush or comb. You can also use a hair pick to style your hair. The upside down, shaking, also gives a great deal of fullness to otherwise flat looking thin hair. You’d be amazed at how creative you can be with your fingers without pulling at the root of the hair!

To protect hair, the best practice is to shampoo only when hair is dirty. Because fine hair gets dirty faster, people with fine-textured hair need to shampoo more frequently — even though fine hair breaks more easily. Keep in mind that Protein is an essential element to your healthy hair.

There are several causes of hair loss, but the main causes of hair loss are health, stress, and hormones.

Health

Health is one factor in hair loss. Damaged blood vessel linings can inhibit your hair growth. This is because these blood vessel linings normaly produce endothelium-derived relaxing factor (E.D.R.F.) or nitric oxide (N.O.). Studies also show that there is a clear relationship between people with heart disease experienceing hair loss. Also, diabetics have a higher chance of experiencing hair loss.

Stress

Stress can also cause your hair to fall out. Typically the hair loss happens 3 months after you’ve gone through the stressful period. Then you will need another 3 months after you start losing hair for your hair growth to begin again ( if the stress has been diffused ). Your bodies built in healing process considers your emotional problem so important, that it ignores your hair putting it into a resting phase. This resting phase is known as Telogen Effluvium. Stress can also trigger genetic hair loss. It’s important to keep your stress at low level.

Hormones

Finally, male hormones called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is known to be the most common cause for male pattern hair loss. DHT is produced from testosterone which is produced by the enzyme 5-apha reductase. Your DHT hormones can be balanced which medication, these medications will resurrect your hair follicles bringing them out of their resting phase and your hair will begin to grow again. The most popular hair loss medication is Propecia. An inbalance of DHT triggers and autoimmune response in pattern loss, which initiates an attack on your hair follices. Gradually your hair follices will become inflammed putting your hair in a resting phase which causes hair to only fall out not grow.

Fifty percent of the people in the U.S. suffer from hair loss. There are many treatments out there, some will correct the inbalance of DHT in your body to allow you to grow your own hair again, some simply need patience or counseling, and of course you can turn to expensive hair transplant surgery. It’s important to understand the three factors that cause hair loss and your odds of preventing hair loss will increase.

Men who begin to go bald early may have their genetic to blame, according to a new research. Researchers have found that the major construction manual for a full head of hair is located on the X chromosome, which sons always inherit from their mothers.

This genetic storage space contains the so-called androgen receptor gene, a long time balding suspect. Looking at men who were losing their hair at a relatively young age, a team led by top researchers in Germany systematically examined all of the genetic patterns within the X chromosome to see why certain hairlines recede faster than others. It’s not a beautiful picture.

The study, published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, claims that a single alteration in the androgen-receptor gene is the main reason why some men end up going bald before their fathers. Nearly half of bald men would not be bald if they did not have this genetic variation. The hair loss in these younger men, he added, was much more serious than in the men who still had a reason to use a comb in their 60s.

Hair Loss Treatment for Genetic Cause

The two approved medicines to treat hair loss (Rogaine and Propecia) need to be taken for a long time to see results. With Propecia, doctors sometimes recommend their patients not to expect any results before at least six to eight months. And both need to be used indefinitely to maintain its effect. Once you stop, hair loss will resume.

Though there are only two medicines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat hair loss, many people are interested in other, alternative treatments. The herb saw palmetto has been used for many years in Europe to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate and there is some evidence that it may also be effective in treating hair loss. You cannot control about genetic but you can prevent hair loss before it’s too late.

The condition of your body depends on your mind and mood. And your hair is just an important part of your body. If you are healthy, your hair will be healthy too. If you are ill mentally or physically, your hair will be shredding.

Although many experts claim that stress and hair loss are not the cause and effect, but in fact they are. High levels of stress can trigger serious illnesses, emotional troubles, and hair loss. Here’s some characteristics of stress hair loss: It is caused by stress that makes hair to go into the loss-phase. This condition usually shows up after 2-4 months. The stress factors that can induce hair loss may be severe illness. Most of your lost hair will likely grow back on its own after your follicles go back to growth cycle phase. Some kind of hair loss supplement and medication can help stimulate the growth of lost hairs. But if you suffer from stress continuously for several years, and hair loss still continue, your hair may not recover fully.

“Telogen Effluvium” is the common name of stress-related hair loss. This kind of hair loss is very common these days due to the busy lifestyle of working.
You cannot do much about this kind of hair loss. But the good news is this type of hair loss is not a permanent condition. Therefore, when you can keep stress levels under control, your hair should return to its normal growth cycles.

If you notice your hair has begun to fall out or becoming thinner as the result of stress, this means your body is not well balanced. It is important to think about the causes of stress in your life, and try to control or reduce stress.

Here’s something you can do to reduce hair loss from stress

Share your problems with your close friends or family

Engage in activities that make you feel happy. Do some hobbies every day.

Try to take only positive thoughts out of your mind. Never let negative thoughts come out.

Exercise regularly

Relax. Find a calm place to hang out.

Eat well-balanced food. Otherwise try some hair loss supplement to get essential nutrition to your hair. Vitamin C, Pantothenic acid, and adrenal glandular products might help to alleviate the problem.

Get enough sleep

Alopecia is the formal name for hair loss. The loss of hair can occur on the scalp or on any part of the body that normally has hair.
Hair loss can happen for various reasons other than just genetic factors. These other types of hair loss account for only 5% of hair loss but they can affect patients severely. But the good news is that these kinds of hair loss are temporary and are treatable.

Diet-related hair loss is one of them in this category. Hair is composed of protein. If your body does not get enough protein, your hair may be affected. Protein can be found from chickens, meats, fish, and other dairy products. Hair loss and diet is more common these days. Many people do not have proper nutrition because they want to diet. When you diet, you limit the amount of some essential food that you take in. Diet restricts the amount of protein you get. The consequence of the diet is temporary hair loss that can be corrected by simply improving your diet.

Hair losses that are caused by nutritional deficiencies can be corrected by having a proper diet. Essential nutrients that are involved include vitamin A, certain B vitamins, the vitamin biotin, vitamin C, copper, iron, zinc, protein, and water.

Vitamin A
Vitamin A is vital in helping to promote the growth and health of cells and tissues of your hair and scalp. The daily intake of vitamin A for adults is 5,000 IU (international units). Sources of vitamin A including;

liver

fish oil

eggs

fortified milk

other foods fortified with vitamin A

Vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12
All three of these B vitamins are essential to the normal function of red blood cells or the hemoglobin (iron-containing) portion of red blood cells. The main function of hemoglobin is to carry oxygen from the lungs to the hair. Healthy hair is dependent on a constant supply of blood and oxygen.

daily intake of vitamin B6 is 2.0 milligrams per day for the average adult.
daily intake of folic acid is 400 micrograms
daily intake of vitamin Bl2 is 6.0 micrograms

Biotin
Biotin has ability to improve the metabolism of scalp oil. The reference daily intake for biotin is 300 micrograms for the average adult. Biotin can be found in

eggs

liver

yeast breads

cereals

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is essential to producing collagen, a connective tissue that gives structure by holding tissues in the hair together, hence prevent hair loss. Recommended daily intake for vitamin C is 60 milligrams.
